OUTCRY Scream Session with Whitney Bradshaw

An Opportunity to Engage in an OUTCRY Scream Session with Chicago Artist Whitney Bradshaw!

Bradshaw initiated this intersectional feminist social practice project the night of the Women’s March in 2018. Since then, she has photographed over 440 womxn letting it all out! The sessions are designed to provide participants with a brave space in which they can practice speaking up and out for themselves and share stories that have been silenced or dismissed by our culture, while taking up space, being heard, supported, and encouraged by a strong community of womxn. The sessions are powerful, therapeutic, transformative, and fun! When seen together the resulting portraits of womxn engaged in unbridled self-expression become a monumental act of collective resistance against the white supremacist patriarchy.

An installation of over 200 of Bradshaw’s OUTCRY portraits will be on view at CPAC from August 18 - October 7, 2023.

The OUTCRY scream session will be held from 10am-12pm on Saturday, October 7 at Colorado Photographic Arts Center. The session will begin promptly at 10:00am with introductions and an overview of the project by the artist. From there, Bradshaw will lead the group through a series of practice screams before everyone is invited to express themselves in front of the camera individually. Each participant will have the choice to scream on their own or with the support of the group. The resulting portraits will be printed and included in future iterations of OUTCRY.
